Please Welcome Devon Ellington

Please tell us about yourself and your most recent project.

I’m a full-time writer, publishing under a half a dozen names in fiction and non-fiction. My plays are produced in New York, Massachusetts, London, Edinburgh, and Australia. I provide business writing and editing services for an international client base, and I teach both online and in-person all over the world.

My latest novel release is the second Jain Lazarus Adventure, from Solstice Publishing, called OLD-FASHIONED DETECTIVE WORK. The first one, HEX BREAKER, Cover Art for Old Fashioned Detective Workpaired up hex breaker Jain Lazarus with cynical detective Wyatt East on the set of an independent film with some preternatural problems. In OLD-FASHIONED DETECTIVE WORK, Jain disappears after a romantic weekend with Wyatt, and he’s the prime suspect in her disappearance. He decides to use old-fashioned detective work to track her down, although he winds up dealing with shape shifters, teens with paranormal abilities, and a cantankerous mermaid. He and Jain also start revealing their pasts to each other and having to face the consequences — many of which ratchet up in book 4, LOVE AND FURY. Book 3, on which I’m currently working, CRAVE THE HUNT, is mostly from Billy Root’s point of view. He became a fan favorite after HEX BREAKER released, and there was more to his story after HEX BREAKER.

I’m also in the process of releasing a series of non-fiction Topic Workbooks, based on classes and seminars I teach (since I have to cut back my teaching schedule). They cover areas like SETTING UP YOUR SUBMISSION SYSTEM, THE SERIES BIBLE: CREATION AND MAINTENANCE, CREATIVE STIMULUS, and the like. They’re up on Smashwords.

Now for Devon’s answers to our ‘weird questions.’

1. What CD is in your CD player right now?
“Beautiful Wasteland” by Capercaillie.

2. What is the meaning of life?
Be kind, but don’t stand by and allow cruelty by others.

3. What do you want written on your tombstone?
I plan to be cremated and scattered in the ocean; but I hope people remember me as committed to positive change, and I hope they throw a big party in my honor and tell funny stories.

4. What time do you normally get to be on a working day?
When that day’s work is done. Writing is not a 9-5 job. When you have a deadline, you honor it, not matter what else is going to hell in a hand basket in your life. There’s no such thing as “no time to write.”

5. If you could be born into history as any famous person, who would it be and why?
Shakespeare. I’d love to live that level of brilliance from inside.

Blurb for Old Fashioned Detective Work:
Detective Wyatt East finds himself the primary suspect when hex breaker Jain Lazarus disappears after their romantic weekend in Vermont. In spite of the suspicions, Jain’s boss, Maitland Stiles, hires Wyatt to track her down, forcing him to face aspects of his own painful past and revealing more about hers. Saddled with two rebellious runaway paranormal teens, he’s embroiled in a shapeshifter pack disagreement, and must learn to work with both a caustic dragon and a cantankerous mermaid to not only find Jain, but help her help an old friend who’s in over his head. Wyatt learns he is not without psychic abilities of his own, although he prefers old-fashioned detective work.

So Cool! Check Out The Sexy Sailors Cover Art.

I just received the cover art for my July 2013 erotic romance, Hazard Duty, Sexy Sailors # 2. Isn’t this the most gorgeous erotic romance cover art ever? I think so. Hopefully you will too. The text and character positions mirror those on the cover of Sexy Sailors # 1, Off Limits. (Here they are, side by side for comparison. I won’t gush further. We all know about pictures and 1,000 words. But please leave me a comment and let me know which cover you like best. Oh yes, Hazard Duty isn’t available yet, even for pre-orders. However, if you want to check out Off Limits (one of my favorites stories) here’s the link, Off Limits on Amazon.

Lia Davis Interviews Danica, Heroine of Winter Eve

Winter Eve cover final amazon

Hello! Thank you, Rue for having Dani and me over today. We are excited to be here and share a little about Winter Eve and that hunky human who stole Dani’s heart.

Lia: Hi, Dani! Please share a little about you.

Dani: Hi. I’m happy to be here. I’m a leopard-shifter and the Ashwood Pack healer. Although an accident has hindered my healing ability a little, but with the love of my Pack and new mate, I’m healing.

Lia: I’m glad to hear that. What is you favorite thing to do in your spear time?

Dani: I love spending time in the nursery and playing with the littlest Packs members.

Lia: Aww. The younger ones can’t shift, can they?

Dani: *smiles and shakes her head* No. Their animal halves, or at least the magick that animates our animal half, doesn’t fully wake up until puberty. Then we have to deal with hormonal preteens through young adults as they learn to control the shift and the animal within.

Lia: Wow. Sounds like the adults have their hands full.

Dani: The closeness of the Packs and love bond between parents and their children is very strong. It is very rare for us to have an unruly teen. Mischievous teens, yes, but they know their boundaries.

Lia: That good. Tell us about Ashwood Falls, before and after the wolves merged with the leopards.

Dani: Well, before the first rogue attack about 200 years ago, both Packs were strong, vibrant communities. They were two of the strongest in North America. After the attacks, they lost so many of their supporting members they started to fall apart. Rebuilding was too much of an effort because moral was down. Finally about 30 years ago Luna and Keegan made the decision to merge their lands and Packs.

Lia: I bet that caused some tension. I mean wolves and leopards living together?

Dani: *nods* Yep. Neither fully trusted the other. But with all good Alphas, Luna and Keegan brought them together and everyone began to learn from each other. It’s still not perfect, but we are much stronger now, and for the most part work as one Pack.

Lia: That’s great. Now care to share your human?

Dani: *She blushes, but her green eyes lit up* Nevan is my winter blessing. He’s compassionate, protective, and doesn’t back down from anyone. He was raised by lions. His stepmother and brothers are mountain lion-shifters, so I didn’t have to deal with the shock of by-the-way-I-can-shift-into-a-large-spotted-cat thing.

Lia: Yes, I guess shifter thing would throw some people off if they didn’t know. Dani, Thanks so much for chatting with me.
Dani: Thank you for bring me along.

Dani and Nevan’s story is the prequel to my new series, Ashwood Falls. Below is more about Winter Eve and a short excerpt. Enjoy!

Title: Winter Eve, Ashwood Falls prequel

Author: By Lia Davis

Publisher: Fated Desires Publishing
Genre: Paranormal Romance

There comes a time when setting your differences aside isn’t just necessary, it’s a means of survival. After losing over half of their dens to a group rogue shifters, the wolves and leopards merged as one Pack, but living together is much more of a challenge then they expected.

Danica Welsh was born to be the leopard pack healer. An accident involving a drug induced youth left her badly burned and scared—emotionally and physically. Without the ability to heal by touch, she secludes herself to the edge of town, away from Ashwood Falls’ overly concerned citizens. All hope of mating and family become a distance dream. When she finally starts to accepts the long, lonely existence ahead of her, a stranger crashes into her life, and her heart.
After Nevan Mathews’ fiancée died three years ago, he submerged himself into his work, cutting off all reminders of a life he dreamed of with the woman he loved. He lets his step-mother talk him into taking the first vacation in five years to visit for the holidays. But an accident delays his travel plans, sending him to Danica’s doorstep and raises a need he thought he would never feel again.

Can they tear down the walls around their hearts and submit to the passion before another claims Dani for his own?
Warning: Contains a shifter who’s scars run deeper than skin, a human who has the heart of a shifter, and a snow storm that’s sure to have them both reaching for warmth.

Friendship Friday~~Please Welcome Author, Nancy Gideon

Cover Art for Betrayed by Shadows by Nancy Gideon

I’ve known Nancy Gideon for. . .well not long enough. She is generous to a fault and one of the most kindly honest people I know. It is an honor and a pleasure to have her as my guest this week. She’ll tell us a little about herself and her latest book then follow up with hilarious answer to a few of those weird questions I like to ask my guests. Read all the way to the end of Nancy’s interview and you’ll find a short treat (I”m not telling). If you don’t know Nancy or haven’t read her books, you’ve got some terrific times ahead of you when you do. If you already know Nancy and/or her books, I don’t have to tell you how much fun she is to be around. Now, here’s Nancy.

Hi! I’m Nancy Gideon. I’m a writer.  I’m a Gemini. That pretty much says everything.  I can’t NOT write.  I love words and I love brainstorming plot ideas.  I was always trying to guess the end of books and movies growing up –  and in many cases came up with a better twist ending. I’m the ultimate multi-tasker (it’s that Gemini thing), thrive on chaos, but admit to control issues (ADD with OCD rising!). I was first published back in the ‘80s (yes, I’m an ‘80s lady!) and have sold over 54 books (and recently 4 more in reissues!) including historicals, contemporary suspense, dark paranormal and even a horror novelization as Dana Ransom, Rosalyn West and now under my own name.  Because writing doesn’t provide health insurance, I’ve worked as a legal assistant for the past 12 years in the same small firm going back to the 9-to-5 after a 15 year ‘real job’ hiatus to raise two boys.  I have a Netflix addiction and feed a menagerie of creature feathered and furred off my 4th floor apartment balcony. For more about me and my books, visit or my blog at

I’ve got lots of launch party giveaways going on.

Please tell us about your most recent release.

Gladly!  BETRAYED BY SHADOWS, the 7th book in my “By Moonlight” dark paranormal series with Pocket Books is available on 12-17-12! That’s NEXT week!!  This is my first e-exclusive as part of Pocket’s new Star program and it’s tastily priced at $1.99 for the first four weeks before going up to the regular price of $5.99. You can pre-order at Amazon or Barnes & Noble  What’s it about? I’ll tell you in pictures and music in my book trailer.

I just turned in the next book in the series. PRINCE OF SHADOWS will be available on 5-27-13 – my birthday!

1. What would you want to be written on your tombstone?

“Here lies Nancy Gideon, skin and bones at last!”

2. Explain relativity.

What’s in it for me?

3. Who is the person you trust most?

Its persons.  My critique group. These fabulous ladies have seen me through all my major life dramas, both ups and downs.  They’re more than friends . . . they’re family.

4. What’s your favorite word?

If you’ve ever ridden in a car with me or bought me a drink (I’m not a big drinker!), you already know what it is. How ‘bout that drink and I’ll tell you all about it.

5. Who told you they loved you last?

My five-year-old grandson. I never get tired of hearing it.

6. Last furry thing you touched?

Thank goodness it wasn’t something in the back of the refrigerator!  It was Jasper.  He’s my new $800-in-dental-bills free cat. He’ll be working off his debt by being snugly for the next 8 to 10 years!

7. If you had to choose between a million bucks and being able to fly, which would you choose?

I’d take the money and pay someone else to do the flying so I could ride first class.  It’s all about those hot towels.

8. What is your guilty pleasure Disney movie?

“The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band” from 1968.  I fell madly in love with Kurt Russell’s singing and dancing! Still very fond of him to this day! Who knew a Disney boy would become such a badass?! Kurt, you aged well.

9. Do you have a secret talent and what is it?

I have a photographic memory that helps me be uber organized (which I have to have since I have ADD! Ooo, shiny!). I know where every file and piece of paper is in the office at any given time.  I’m the go-to person for setting up meal reservations and daytrips on vacations and conferences. I live to make lists! And check them twice.

10. What is one unique thing are you afraid of?

Things that aren’t in their proper order (see above!). . . you know, cupboard doors half open, spoons and forks co-mingling, patterned towels hung wrong side out, mail or money not all facing the same direction, M&Ms not sorted by color and number, anything on my desk that’s been moved since I last sat there. Freaks me right out.  OCD much?

11. You have the opportunity to sleep with the movie-celebrity of your choice. Who would it be?

I would do Jeremy Renner in a heartbeat! Poor guy is probably hiring extra security right now! I can hear my son – “No, Mom, they don’t have a life-sized Hawkeye figure with removal clothing!” Too bad. That’d be on my couch watching Netflix with me and son would be out the door!

12. What is your favorite expletive?

Didn’t I already answer this f-ing question? Oh, sorry, that was favorite word. My bad.

13. Your house is on fire! You have just enough time to run in there and grab ONE inanimate object. Don’t worry, your loved ones and pets have already made it out safely. So what’s the one thing you’re going to save from that blazing inferno?

My laptop . . . duh!  My entire life is on that hard drive. Stuff can be replaced. Ideas and memories can’t be.

14. You accidentally eat some radioactive vegetables. They were good, and what’s even cooler is that they endow you with the super-power of your choice! What’s it gonna be?

It’s always good to get some benefit from vegetables . . . I’d like the ability to clone myself so part of me could sleep in instead of getting up at 5:00 a.m. to write. And so I could send the clone to work for me on those icy winter mornings in Michigan.

Extra Treat for all who read this far, the blurb for Nancy’s newest release, Betrayed by Shadows.
